FAIRLADY MAGAZINE VG TOP SCHOOL IN THE EASTERN CAPE

The June 2013 edition of Fairlady Magazine contained a thorough look at public schooling in South Africa.  In particular,  the article considered the Top 25 public schools in South Africa.

A number of criteria were used to determine the Top 25, including academic, sporting and cultural achievements, as well as comunity outreach, facilities and fees.

Victoria Girls' High School was one of only two Eastern Province schools – the other school was Clarendon High School in East London.  VGHS was considered the top Eastern Province school, according to Fairlady, in the final analysis.

This recognition is appreciated and highlights the fantastic contribution that staff, girls and parents make at VG to make us one of the very top South African schools.

VGHS WINS 2011 PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN HOMEGROWN AWARD

On 29th September 2011, at a gala dinner and exhibition in Johannesburg, Victoria Girls’ High School was the overall winner in the Proudly South African/CFG Schools Governance Category.

This judges of this award looked at different aspects of school management like the school and hostel codes of conduct, the staff management of the school, as well as the leadership opportunities afforded to the grade 12s.  As a result of our very good policies and our effective management of school funds VG was selected as one of the four finalist schools.  Once the finalists had been announced the judges and camera crew then made a visit to each of the schools where they interviewed the staff and were given a tour of the facilities.

At the gala dinner the video of each finalist school or company was shown before the winner and runners up were announced.  It was an amazing moment to see the VG badge come up onto the big screens and then watch the video of the school.  I felt very proud to stand up and collect the award on behalf of VGHS, knowing that it truly is a school of excellence, passion and integrity.  VGHS would also like to congratulate the others schools in the governance category on their achievements - 1st runner up was St Peter’s School from Johannesburg and 2nd runner up was Glenwood High School from Durban.

TOP EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION IN SA

In 2007 VGHS was accorded the double honour of being selected as one of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Top 70 schools in the country; and being chosen as the top educational institution in the country, in the Petro-SA Proudly South African Homegrown Awards.

These awards attest not only to VGHS's consistent academic excellence, but also to our celebration of cultural diversity and youth leadership.

The following appeared in PROUD magazine:

Victoria Girls' High is an Eastern Cape state school that strives to deliver

individually packaged excellence to each of their 410 'clients'.  Driven by

passion, integrity and excellence, the school strives to support and respect

each individual in a caring environment, bolstered by discipline.  It also

provides the broadest possible spectrum of activities in order to nurture

individuals' strengths.  Victoria Girls' High School doesn't just teach, it

     educates and enriches.
