AWARENET
On the 21
September 2011 the VGHS Awarenet rappers attended the Awarenet Rapping
Competition in honour of the Annual Global Peace Day Celebration. Five
schools were competing against one another for 1st prize. These schools
were Benjamin Mahlasela Senior Secondary School, Mary Waters High School,
Nathaniel Nyaluza High School, Nombulelo Senior Secondary School and
Victoria Girls’ High School.
The event started off
with a video clip explaining that the Annual Global Peace Day was based on the
idea that we can stop violence and create global peace in our homes and
communities. Sakhile Moleshe, a member of South African band Goldfish sent a
motivational message for the rappers.
The local
hip-hop group Inyaniso wished all the five schools good luck for the
competition. The Graeme College group, Boys in Motion, together with the
Upstart Poets performed a piece, as well as two of the talented judges - Keagan
Prince and Rodrick.
Best rapper was
awarded to a talented boy from Benjamin Mahlasela Senior Secondary School.
VGHS walked away with the Best Group Award and a special mention for their song
being played at the video that was broadcasted in London at the international
rally on that day. The all round winner for the best song was Mary Waters who
will be given the opportunity to record their song and make a music video which
will be advertised on U Tube. The event overall was a great success!

40 DAYS
On the 12
August VG held its forty days celebration. The theme
was Good vs Bad cartoon characters. The celebrations
were started by the breaking of a big piņata with
the number forty on the front.
This was to
symbolise the beginning of the last days of high
school for the matric class. At the end of the
school day the Matrics and all their teachers had a
lunch in the quad where the matrics showed off their

GRADE 11 & 12 FORMAL SOCIAL
On the 5th February the Gr 12s hosted our annual
Grade 11 & 12 Formal Social. The evening was most enjoyable and certainly
worthwhile. The music, food and company were exceptional indeed. A night
certainly not gone to waste, thanks to all who worked so hard to it, especially
the staff under Mrs Richards, and to the Gr 11s and 12s who were determined to
have a good time.
