A number of girls at VGHS do a sport not offered by the school.

Non-school sports in which girls participate at the moment include:

Melissa Amos



Congratulations to Melissa Amos and her horse King's Highway have recently been placed 8th Nationally at the 2017 SASJ National Jumping Competition - Junior 90.  She also competed for the first time at the 1m level at the Valentines Show, where she was placed 2nd. Melissa Amos and King's Highway achieved the following in the 4 classes in which they competed at the SANESA Qualifier in May:

1st - 90cm Working Hunter

2nd - Intermediate Equitation

2nd - 1m Show Jumping Competition

2nd - 1m Show Jumping A2 Speed

At the Settlers Show held 18-21 May VG was represented by Emilly van der Merwe and Melissa Amos, both of who were awarded a range of rosettes and positions.

Melissa Amos

Emilly and her horse, Eli Lilly, representing VGHS at the most recent SANESA (Schools League horse riding event) Regional Finals.  From here the girls stand a chance of being chosen to represent their Province at the Nationals held during October of every year.  Emilly and Lilly achieved two first places (Equitation and Performance Riding) as well as a second place in the Ideal Time Jumping event (being placed in 3 out of 4 events) at the most recent SANESA show, held over the last weekend of July 2017.

Melissa Amos and King's Highway were selected to represent Eastern Province at the SANESA National Competition in Gauteng in Show Jumping, Equitation and Working Hunter, all at a height of 1m. Melissa is the only rider from Eastern Province chosen to represent the Province in Equitation – what a fantastic achievement!




Chloe Vogel, Thembi Kuhlane and Kayle Olivier


A number of VG girls have been participating in SEKO Karate Champs and have achieved great placings.  During assembly the trio performed their group kata for which they received gold awards at the champs.  Kayle Olivier and Thembi Kuhlane have also been selected to travel to Scotland in May 2018.  Good luck with all your preparations!



Erin Bradley


Erin Bradley has performed extremely well over the year and has won a number of medals.  She also set a new record distance for South African National Archery and was selected for the EP team.
